Lunch · Conde Duque, Madrid

Vegan lunch, until 17:00.

The kitchen runs from 10:00 to 17:00 without a break, so at 16:59 you can still order a sando, a burger or nachos. The whole menu is available at any hour and everything is 100% plant-based: the bacon is made from mushrooms, the pulled pork and fried chicken from seitan, and the burgers from pea and soy protein, all made here like the rest.

Menu with prices Opening hours and how to come

La Vegaína: double beef-style pea and soy patty, melted cashew cheese, vurger sauce, lettuce, tomato and red onion, with its cheddar syringe

Sandos and burgers

There are three sandos, all in brioche from our workshop with scrambled plant-based egg, and the filling changes: extra-crisp fried chicken, seitan pulled pork, or the smoked mushroom bacon of the Baconator, which is the most ordered of the three. Burgers are made from pea and soy protein, beef style or chicken style. Add fries with our mayo for €2.50.

The best hour

Four in the afternoon is the sweet spot.

The queue, when there is one, is Saturday and Sunday morning. From 15:30 there is almost always a free table, and midweek there is hardly ever a wait at any hour. If you want to eat without rushing and without signing up for anything, that is the window.

Questions

Where can I have a vegan lunch in central Madrid?
Frutas Prohibidas is at Calle Conde Duque 26, between Malasaña, Argüelles and Plaza de España. The menu is 100% plant-based with no exceptions, and the kitchen runs from 10:00 to 17:00 without a break.
How late can I have lunch?
Until 17:00. At 16:59 you can still order a sando, a burger, nachos or eggs Benedict. We do not close between breakfast and lunch, so the whole menu is available at any hour. After the kitchen, cake and coffee carry on until 17:30, and the room closes at 18:00.
How much does lunch cost?
Sandos are €14 to €14.50, burgers €14 to €17.50, salad bowls €13 and sharing plates €7 to €15.50. With a drink, most tables come to between €20 and €30 per person.
Do I need to book for lunch?
We do not take bookings and you do not need one. If we are full when you arrive, you scan the virtual queue QR code and we text you when your table is ready. At lunchtime, and especially from 15:30, you usually walk straight in.
Does it work for someone who is not vegan?
Most of the people who sit down are not. The bacon is made from mushrooms, the pulled pork and fried chicken from seitan and the burgers from pea and soy protein, so the food is close to what they already know.
Are there gluten-free options?
The Caín and Abel cheesecakes are made without gluten. The rest of the menu contains gluten in the breads and wheat tortillas. Everything is prepared in a single kitchen, so we cannot guarantee there are no traces: if you are coeliac, tell us when you order and we will go through it with you.

Getting here

Calle Conde Duque 26, 28015 Madrid. Metro Noviciado (L2), Plaza de España (L3 and L10) and Ventura Rodríguez (L3). Right across from the Conde Duque cultural centre, which you can walk into to see its exhibitions, and five minutes from Plaza de España, between Malasaña and Argüelles. Open Wednesday to Sunday; closed Monday and Tuesday.

We have been a brunch spot in Madrid since 2016, and that is what most people know us for: the eggs Benedict are still the most ordered dish at any hour. Lunch here is the same thing, a bit later in the day.
