Getting here

Where is Frutas Prohibidas?
Calle Conde Duque 26, 28015 Madrid, in the Conde Duque neighbourhood between Malasaña and Plaza de España. Metro Noviciado, Plaza de España or Ventura Rodríguez.
What are the opening hours?
Wednesday to Sunday. The kitchen runs from 10:00 to 17:00 without a break. Cake, coffee and the rest of the drinks carry on until 17:30. The room closes at 18:00. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
Can I book?
We don't take reservations, but you don't have to wait at the door either: if it is full, you scan the virtual queue QR code and we text you when your table is ready. On weekdays you almost always walk straight in.
How long is the wait on a Sunday?
There can be a queue, mostly 11:30 to 14:30; when there is one the average wait is 19 minutes. At opening or after 15:30, much less. On weekdays there is hardly ever a wait.
Is brunch served all day?
Yes. Same menu from opening until the kitchen closes at 17:00, with no midday break.
How late can I have lunch?
Until 17:00. At 16:59 you can still order eggs Benedict, a sando, a burger or any hot plate on the menu.
How late can I have cake and coffee?
Until 17:30. Cakes, cheesecakes, cookies, coffee, juices and lemonades run half an hour longer than the kitchen, so at 17:29 you are still in time. The room closes at 18:00.
Can I come just for a coffee or a slice of cake?
Of course, with no minimum spend. It is also the quietest stretch: from 15:30 there is almost never a wait.

The food

Is everything vegan?
Yes, the whole menu is 100% plant-based: no egg, dairy, meat or fish in any dish or drink.
Is it only for vegans?
No. Most of our customers aren't vegan. They come for the eggs Benedict, the burgers, the pancakes or the açaí, and many don't notice it is plant-based until told.
What should I order the first time?
The eggs Benedict (Benedict del Génesis, €15) are the dish the place is known for and the safest bet. If you prefer sweet, the Torre de Babel pancakes with açaí (€12.50) or an açaí bowl. And if you are unsure, ask us: we are happy to help you choose.
What is the vegan egg made of?
It is made in our own kitchen workshop from plant proteins. The recipe is ours; allergens are listed on every dish.
Do you have gluten-free options?
The Caín and Abel cheesecakes are made without gluten. Everything comes from one kitchen, so we can't guarantee there are no traces. If you are coeliac, tell us when you order and we will go through the ingredients with you.
Nut or soy allergies?
Many sauces contain cashews and the plant-based egg contains soy. Every dish lists its allergens and, if you tell us before ordering, we will go through them with you dish by dish.
Do you make everything yourselves?
Breads, eggs, cheeses, proteins, sauces, granola and syrups come out of our own workshop. Exceptions are noted on the dish (for example, the wheat tortilla in the quesadillas).
